Spice cookies with Nutella® hazelnut spread

Cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves will simply delight your palate. How? Thanks to this recipe from Belgium and the Netherlands: very flavorful thin cookies, crunchy and slightly browned, topped with Nutella® hazelnut spread and made in the Christmas shape that you prefer!

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup Nutella® hazelnut spread
  • Golden beads to decorate

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix melted butter, egg and brown sugar until combined.

  • Pour butter mixture into the flour; stir until combined.
  • Form a ball and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate for at least an hour.

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Roll out dough to approximately 1/4-inch thickness.

  • Using cookie cutters of various shapes, cut the pastry into 30 cookies. Transfer to parchment paper–lined baking sheets.
  • Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 12 minutes, or until cookies are set.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

  • Spread Nutella® hazelnut spread over the top of cookies.
  • Decorate with golden beads.
