We maintain strong relationships based on trust with our suppliers, some have been going for over 40 years. This helps us to guarantee that the sugar grains used in Nutella®always meet Ferrero's high quality criteria. And, like all our ingredients, our sugar is 100% GMO-free.

We prefer local sources

The sugar we use in Nutella® is mainly sucrose, which comes from beet sugar and/or refined cane sugar, depending on the geography of its production area. The sugar types we purchase globally can be roughly classified as follows: 75% beet sugar and 25% refined cane sugar. In Europe, we primarily source exclusively GMO-free beets from European producers.Whilst our sugar cane comes from outside of Europe, mainly from Brazil, India, Mexico and Australia.


The quality of our sugar

We only purchase sugar in crystals. In addition to constant monitoring at our supplier’s premises, we conduct periodically detailed analyses on the raw material upon entering our factories, to thoroughly evaluate the physical, chemical and microbiological properties. This is because we believe that quality should be observed up close.
