Baked apples with Nutella hazelnut spread
A heartwarming dessert for wintertime
A traditional German treat to savor while they are still warm, especially when it is cold outside. Can you imagine the delightful smell of baked apples stuffed with cinnamon, raisins, hazelnuts and topped with Nutella® hazelnut spread?
  • 4 ripe apples (about 7 oz each), such as McIntosh or Gala
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup hazelnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup apple juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup Nutella® hazelnut spread

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut off top of apples; put aside.
  • Scoop out core almost to bottom, leaving base intact; arrange in 8-inch-square baking dish.

  • In a small bowl, mix together 1/3 cup sugar, hazelnuts, butter, raisins and cinnamon.
  • Fill each apple with butter mixture.
  • Place reserved apple tops on each apple.

  • In a small pan, heat apple juice, lemon juice and remaining sugar until it simmers; cook until sugar is dissolved.
  • Drizzle over apples. Cover dish tightly with foil.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until apples are cooked through. Slightly remove foil, let cool.

  • Remove tops and spoon 1 tbsp Nutella® hazelnut spread over filling; replace tops. Serve warm.
