Wholegrain bread, just like bread in general, plays an important nutritional role in Dutch society. It is consumed for both breakfast and lunch. One of its main advantages over ordinary white bread is that it contains more dietary fibres, as it's made out of wholemeal flour. The Dutch like their bread with a nice crunchy crust on the outside, often decorated with an appetising mix of seeds, and deliciously soft on the inside. Wholegrain bread tastes great with any type of topping: salty, like Dutch cheese or ham, or sweet, like the typical Dutch peanut butter or Nutella® - of course!
