Weiβbrot (white bread) is made from at least 90% finely-ground wheat flour. It can be free-formed, shaped into an oval without the use of a bread loaf pan, or it can be baked in a loaf pan and is then called Kastenweiβbrot.
With more than 300 different kinds of bread Germany is a country with a globally-renowned bread culture. Germans just love eating rolls and bread made with lots of different grains: whether rye, wheat or spelt. German bread isn't only a side dish but a fully-fledged part of the menu. That explains why Germans also have their very own "Bread Day" every year on May, 5th.
